It's pretty dark on my monitor too. I was wondering about it as well.

It's not your monitor, I'm using a Diamond grpahics monitor and it looks like a Ibanez board, really dark.

Here is one of the photos with increased brightness. What do you make of the black and white binding?

Look at how the bridge pickup cover is mounted! We've seen this kind of thing before. Why do poeple do this?

Me wonders if it's a faker. I don't care how long the guy has had it. Especially since he admits buying it as a beginner. Maybe he was duped. That fingerboard bothers me.

could be a refretted board with the varnish stripped. That plus bad lighting can make it look that dark

Why spend that much on a questionable instrument when you can buy a new 4003 for less?

Bad lighting would not account for the different color bindings, however. I cannot see an instrument leaving the factory like this. I am suspicious.

Peter i have seen many white finished basses (both in photos and i person) that had black plastic parts and body binding, but white fingerboard binding.

Perhaps this bass was originally white

Owen: Good point, perhaps it is a refinished instrument.

its also gotta be a 4003 - look at the tailpiece, also no center neck lamination.

Scott Doseck refurbished a similar looking bass as a project:

Notice it has black binding on the body and white on the neck, and I think he discovered that the bass was originally white during the restoration, so I'm going with Owen on this one, that it's probably had the original finish removed.

That bass is way overpriced no matter what.
