Mod for my '81 370/12

Hey folks--

I have an '81 370/12 which, to make a long story short, is wired stock except that the two jacks are dual mono rather than Rick-O-Sound stereo.

This guitar has Hi-gain pickups (again, stock) which are much hotter than even current hi-gains and certainly hotter than toasters (as is the case with guitars form the late-'70s/early '80s).

I don't want to change the pickups out, but I do want to be able to use this guitar onstage without having to adjust my amp's volume every time.

Would it be possible to wire a resistor of some kind to one of my mono output jacks (presumably the second in the chain) to have a lower output, and still be able to plug into the other jack and return to the guitar's current output and sound? If so, what value resistor should I use?

Thanks!

Sounds awkward to me, but something in the range of 20K to 50K in series with the signal(between the 2 jacks) should knock down the volume. You may want to wire a small cap(~200pF-600pF) in parallel with the resistor if you loose too much top end.

A push/pull pot would be a whole lot easier to use and require no extra holes in the pickguard.
