I think the initial bid amount is about what it's worth....maybe a bit more.

I believe the early 80's neck is a plus , it has a toaster, reverse TRC...."groovy" paint job...

What are the plus or minus of the set neck? This looks like something I might have to make a bid on. The more I hang around this forum the more I'm gonna have to add to my collection. You guys are a bad influence on me. Yeah Jeff I'm looking for a 5 string now too. I know - good luck finding one of those.

I think supposedly there were supposed to have a weaker neck joint for a 4001 than for a 4000, with the second pickup they had to route it out close to the neck joint, someone here was told to avoid those by someone at Ric. And a lot of them were 4000's converted to 4001's because they didn't sell may 4000's.

Pretty soon I will convert a 4003 to a 5 string and then step by step document the process ... then we can make a few more five string rics available ...

Cool Jeff. Definitely keep me posted on that one. I am currently playing an old Aria 5er that I picked up to see if this old dog could learn a new trick. With todays music requiring alot of that B string I need to upgrade muey pronto.

I'll tell you from experience, the set neck, "thing", is pure hog wash. I've got an '82 and there's never, never been a moments problem.

Many Gibson basses have had a set neck, no problem. Let me say, tastes not withstanding, I don't like most Gibson's, but that's just not my taste. I have never seen them fail because of a set neck. There is one truth about them, though, they are a little more likely to be slightly more headstock heavy, not bad just more noticable than your neck thru model.

My earlier "set neck" comment was only an observation, not a put-down. Just me thinking out loud....

Seriously, someone here was warned by someone at Rickenbacker to avoid those, it's in an old thread somewhere. And I assume because of the weakened neck joint.
