Someone on here mentioned a place in New York who does refinishing. I can't find the thread.
Help? anyone?

Anyway, I was able to find someone who does expert refinishing right near my office. What I did was pick up that faker from Ebay and I'm selling the parts(sold!), the truss rod cover(which is real) and the case(cuz it's for a flying V or explorer with a horn cut out to fit the Rick).
Call me crazy cuz I am,it will be finished sea foam green with gold pickguard and truss cover(no name of course) and I will install all black hardware. Only pickup will be a horseshoe when Lollar's comes out.Bass needs to be refretted as well.
Pictures will be taken throughout the process which will probably take 6-9 months

Mark, that sounds like a nice color combo! I am in the process of refinishing a 4003 myself with black binding and black parts. So far I've just done it in clear.

I was even considering checkboard binding which he said he could do,but it's laborous and expensive. Unless of course Jared says "DoIt!"

I'd say DO IT. I was just looking at the checkerboard binding that I have wonder how I'm gonna get around those horns. I've done a Les Paul before with decent results. The binding was a lot thicker but only a single ply. Man seagreen and check binding, I'm starting to drool....

The way he explained it is that the binding is put on before the sides are attached to the neck .Obviously he's not going to remove the sides soit becomes very time consuming to rout by hand on the inside of the horn near the neck.
You got me thinking about it however.

Yeah I see his point. In order to add the check binding another deeper channel has to be routed and has to stop before the neck. The original white or black goes on top of that. Well ya got me thinking I should pick up a project bass and experiment. We'll see much that junker goes for on Evilbay. That maybe the perfect victim.

I've got a guy here in OKC that can do the binding, as long as you've got it that is.

Can you get a price or forward his contact info to me? I have the binding, at least the checked stuff.

See, now with Jared giving the nod I don't have much of a choice.
Kendall, the guy here in NY will actually make the binding.
Ahhh... it's just money, what the hey...

Making the binding can't be cheap or easy. I got some from a guy in Oklahoma. I no longer have something to compare it to but it looks like it will do.

Well it's available and fairly cheap if you needed some.

Really? Let me know. I'm sure it would save me some money.Although, I'm sure the labor is more the problem than the material.
