With this bid posted, this has become the highest known price paid for any Rickenbacker guitar in history to date, and we're not done with it yet. The highest known before this was George Harrison's 1962 425; it was sold at auction for approx. $91,000. I say 'known' for I am not sure whether the price paid for McGuinn's 1st Rickenbacker is public knowledge, and may have exceeded $99K.
Orny is counting down the minutes, I bet.

Wow Nick, that is cool. I could see 'someone' buying it and keeping it next to Bill Black's upright...(u know who). That would be a cool story!

I'm not sure if "the man" would spend that type of dough on it. I know if I had a money tree, I would pay whatever it took to get it. The hair stood up on the back of my next when I saw it listed, James was likely one of the most important bass players that will ever be, next to guys like Sir Paul and the rest of the "gang".
