I got this bass from one of our Forum members ... he had converted it from a 4003s5 to a v63 style Ric bass ... I was going to restore it beck to the way it was before 4003s5 mapleglo with black trim ... A nice look for a Ric bass ... but the v63 look sorta grew on me so I stained the headwings walnut and I am giving it a couple of extra coats of tung oil ...

this is what it looked like when I got it ...

and now as I am refinishing it ...

If you REALLY wanna go with the v63 look, shouldn't you put a horseshoe in it, or at least put the ashtray on it?

Wow!

That looks great! How are you staining the headwings without getting the rest of the headstock stained?

Glad I was able to get the 5 string to someone who would treat it right!

In a week I get my new 4003 back. I am having my luthier do a new pickguard, like the v63/c64. Should be cool!

John ... I used masking tape on the headstock ... that bass sounds and plays very nice ... my other 1990 4003s5 is thicker sounding ... it is from late 1990 whereas this one is early 1990 the pickups seem to have a few less windings ... but still thicker than 80's 4003s5 basses ... also with the oil hand rubbed finish it weighs less than all of my other 4003s5 basses ... it's like about a pound lighter ...
