The 'giants' must be asleep, my modest bid has held up for over 10 mins! Image

What's the deal with these private auctions anyway? And the giants woke up, it's up to $1025.00

Nah, that's just me, still on top. Shall I prepare a space for it just yet? That $1200 top bid on it aught to hold up for a week, eh? Image

More like a couple of days with the way CS basses have been selling, good luck.

Thanks, but I didn't expect I'd last a day. And, apparently, I didn't. A CS is not in my league.

This is probably another stupid question, but what is the allure of a Chris Squire bass? They are very similar to a V63 aren't they? I can think of a lot of other Ric basses I'd rather have than a Chris Squire. I like the yellow color but I'm not going to pay $3000.00 for a color. I don't like names on the pick guards anyway. (that new guy's getting uppity again)
I'm still waiting for the Pete Quaife signature model myself.

Could it be the "Limited Ed" factor?

a Shadow/Tuxedo/Redneck/Blackstar is 'just' another 4003, right?

Its the GAS thang!

I bought mine for three reasons, I'm a huge Squire fan, it's a limited edition and therefore a speculative investment, and I wanted a V63, which the CS is for all intents and purposes and sounds fantastic. Plus I bought it new and got a great deal.

I didn't need another bass to gig with so my CS only sees a little studio time now and then. My main Rick's are my 4004's.

I would ditch the embarassing (to me) pickguard and replace it with a new one. But that color with the walnut headwings.... Still, I wouldn't buy one for the prices they're going for now.

Yes the CS is a limited edition, but the V63 issue is now closed, and from what I see on ebay it would appear that 1000 CS guitars is a LOT! It seems like I have seen 1-3 CS's on ebay at any given time for the past 3 years. I like them too, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more Chris Squires than all other v63 colors combined.

Jeff, I think the thing is that most people who purchased CS's did so to collect and the 4001v63 is more of a player's base, therefore harder to find in top condition, regardless of the color.

For me, I love the way that CS looks but, as much as I admire Chris Squire, I don't want his signature on my pickguard

the trick is to get both-and not go broke!

Yeah I'm mainly talking about how high the prices have gone up on them recently, I think they are nice basses, but I just don't understand why the prices are so high compared to say an early 70's 4001. (which are much rarer) I would think that the Shadows, Blackstars Whitestars etc. would be worth a lot more money than those, how many White stars do you see for sale? Not many. I love the yellow color though but don't like the pickguard.
