Nice bass, but a bit pricey...

I'm not sure what the going rate for a 4001C64S would be in the US, but I suspect the starting price is already over the odds:

here in the colonies you can "find" a C64s for about $1900 US. In pounds sterling + VAT?

Ok maybe I'm a bit nieve, but here's the deal. US manufacturers are reluctant stratigically to enter foriegn markets. US dealers may be bound by contract not to ship overseas. But what is to prevent me from buying locally and sending in some secure fashion to a customer in say the UK? Not ebay, but new goods that are in short supply. I checked and Musicians friend has in stock a new 4001c64c sent to me free shipping for US$2449.95. So shipping and Customs duties are some nominal amount. If UK dealers are asking US$3600 for one, and run of the mill 4003's are fetching twice the U.S. price, there sounds like a mutually beneficial resale opputunity to me.

I have enough frequent flyer mileage to fly to the UK free. Heck, claiming it was mine, I could hand deliver one, bypassing those nasty customs and other fees, no?
