An Introduction, a picture, and a story

Hi everyone! I've been lurking around here for about half a year. What a great site, and thanks to all of you for the info posted here!

I'm a husband and father. I've been playing bass for 25 years. My favorite groups are The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Led Zep, and the Allmans (had to have one American band in there). Favorite bassists are Sir Paul, and John Paul Jones. My main bass since 1989 has been a 65' Jazz which I bought for $350.00 with the proceeds from selling a 86' 4003S. I love the Jazz, but I always wanted another Rick.

Here comes the story part. Do you guys remember the thread from March 21st titled "V63 Alert"? Look that over to see how messed up that ebay listing was. It was a one day listing, had a picture of a bass from some web sight, then ended after about one day. Well, I kept in touch with the guy. He admitted using the wrong picture, and said he ended the listing because the bass had a bad string buzz. I said I was still interested after seeing the actual photos, so he said I had first crack at it when he had it fixed. The cool thing is my brother lives about an hour from him and went to check it out for me. The string buzz was caused by a heavy handed punk player and a nut slot that looked like it was opened up with a chainsaw. I bought it as is and my brother replaced the nut. It looks and plays perfectly! What a beauty. It's a May 93' serial # E6 7815.

Sorry for rambling on, but I'm a little excited!

Great find, and welcome! You have almost been redeemed for trading a 4003S for a Jazz bass.
: )

Welcome, Teeder.... Cool story, and glad to meet another proud V63 owner! Looks like the little guy is learning the love of Rickenbackers, too!

Thanks Jeff,

I wish I still had that 4003SFG. I bought it new in '86 for $555.00. I wanted the V63, but it was a whole $200.00 more, and for what, walnut wings? So I passed on the V63. I never said I was smart! Anyway, this one eases the pain a bit. ;)

My boy's favorite DVD's are The Beatles Anthology, and that new Zeppelin one from last year. He always wants me to get the bass out when we're listening to stuff, and lately he's wanted to strum along on the acoustic too. I have that Beatle Gear book, and he loves to go through and pick out all the ricks. Maybe he needs a little 3/4 scale Ricky to get him started! I can see me now "honest Honey it's for our son"!

No offense intended, actually at the time I was jamming along with "Perpetual Change" , off of the Yes Album. My wife came out to snap the photo and to tell me I'd better turn it down or the neighbors were gonna call the cops on me.....You know when I think about it, maybe that accounts for the gesture. Image
