Hey folks,

I've seen a real honey of a 2002 340 in Turqoise, and I was wondering a few things about it:

(i) It has a vintage tremelo... was this a very common accessory, or just an option?

(ii) When it comes to the classic trem, can you pull the arm off, so it's not in the way?

(iii) How rare do you blokes reckon Turqiouse was?

Cheers,
Rob

Rob,

Was it this one?

A couple of things: Turquoise (now discontinued) was a standard finish for the past few years. It doesn't usually come with the tremelo, Russ (the owner) ordered it that way just to be different. I'm pretty sure that you can take tremelo off and replace it with the standard "R" tailpiece. The mounting holes should match up.

Hey! That's the one! You guys must scope these pages as often as I do Image

I'm not against the trem, per se, just wondering if the arm of it came off so it wasn't in the way all the time?

Even with Turquoise being out for a few years... that's still probably not "that" many out there, surely?

I don't know the numbers of turquoise Rics, but given that one of the definitions of rare is not found often, I don't think I would call them rare at the moment as there are a number of them for sale in various dealers. As to the future and their availability and if it will affect the value much is hard to say as the color was probably discontinued because it wasn't that popular. There are less red and white Rics for sale at the moment, (also discontinued colors), but that doesn't seem to me to have much of a positive effect on their prices as the ones that are for sale seem reasonably priced. I have a turquoise Ric and bought it because I liked the color and the price was right. As well the fact that it had double binding was attractive. Now that the color has been discontinued I'm not expecting any increase in price though. I guess it depends if you are buying because you like the guitar, or if you are looking at it as an investment

No, I actually like the colour. The rare question relates more to my curiosity than anything else. As a player, I want something to play that looks great -- not something to put on the wall, or hide in the cupboard Image

By the way... is that a white insert in the cutaway, or is it just a really unfortunate trick of the light?

I love the Turquoise Rick...a gold pg and trc would look great on that (as on the 660's)...and that seems to be a light trick.

Hard to say about the inset, but I would suspect it is just flash reflection. The one I bought is a 370, here is the link to the discussion from when I was seeking input on price, if it helps.
