How can I loose the mud

I have a 98 360 with high gains. I love the guitar, but is there anyway to make the neck pick-up more clear sounding? I am not looking for vintage jangle, just more clarity. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Try adding a cap in series with it to roll off the bottom end. Try different values till you find what you like, such as .01 or .0047, etc.

How about unwinding it a bit?

So what exactly is making the neck pickup sound muddy. Is is the cap or is overwound? Or both. I would like to keep the pickup's strength, so adding cap might be the way to go. I realize that you guys know a lot more about this than I do. My Ric kind of reminds me of Fender Telecasters from the 50's which had a muted front pickup. I have been told that Leo did this because sometimes the guitarist from that era had to hold down the bass job too. Was Rickenbacker trying to get a muted front pickup sound of purpose also? Jeffery, what would you suggest as a starting point for a cap? Thanks

I would try a 0.22 mfd capacitor first Paul. That made a big difference for my toaster neck pickup on my 450/12.
