As I've never played one what are they like?

I never miss a chance to rave about these basses!
I have a 78 3001 & love it. Fat, creamy tone with just enough of that Rick clank. It's really HEAVY though. Everybody flips out over them on that side of the big drink because of Mani...

Anything to watch out for on them neck wise?

I had a white 3001 that I bought new in '78 but ended up selling when times suddenly got tough. I still regret selling that bass. It was heavy but sounded wonderful. A very well built and solid instrument.

Solid as a rock. They are bolt on, so the action/sustain won't be near 4001/3 standards, but special in their own right. Also they're not as "delicate" as the 4000 series - you can bang 'em around a little more IMHO.
And the upper body is contoured, so no Rick wrist rash!
Went into the studio with that bass in '01 and recorded direct & dry with great results...

Hi guys
I had already added this to my watch list - aye, you were right about wanting more Rics - but, the price is already at £510 (about $940) and I'd noticed elsewhere on this forum that $400 - 600 would be about right?
Is this simply too expensive for what's on offer?

Anndra, the $400 - 600. would be great if you are the the US but abroad the price would most likely be higher.

Aye, John, thanks. It's ever the case that a quick glance at any purchase price just looks like they swap the £ symbol for the $ symbol.
It is very frustrating!

LOL you should have adopted the Euro, then you'd only pay 10% more, instead of double!
