At first I was sure it was a v63. Aren't the bodies on the S's contoured more? He says he can't supply more pictures, the case is black and will try holding the bass over a scanner to get me a look at the bridge and pickup. There is no pickup cover..
Also sounds like the bass has chipping on top of the headstock and bottom of bass that you won't see till you own it.
I bid the minimium and already was outbid. Seems a little dangerous without more knowledge...

Doesn't look like a horseshoe to me...you see the opening for the bridge pickup, looks more like a 4003s to me. Although the body style had me wondering too...

Ask the seller for a better picture. It appears to be an S so far. It has no horse shoe and a 1 inch space on the neck pickup. The V had a 1/2 inch spaced neck pickup.

Confirmed from seller. It's an S. Picture he sent shows high gain,no split bridge.
Either way I felt is was worth at least $600 that's why it was all I bid.

you have to see the back side ... the v63 bass has a square heel ... but it is probably a 4003s ...

"S" no big giant metal colored pole pieces which you would see if that was a V 63 with the horseshoes taken off, you can't miss them.

All literature that I've read, from the eighties, only offered the V63 in Mapleglo or Fireglo. As far as the black case that would be correct. I don't think the silver case was reissued until the early 90's. My 91 V63 has a black wooden case.

They were available in all the other finishes, at least in the '90s when I ordered mine. And I too miss Bobampeg! Whatever happened to him, did he get carried off into the the rainforest by a rabid alpaca?

Bobampeg is no longer with us ... regretably a couple of svt cabs did him in ...
if this were a sports forum then he could be the player to be named later ...

Actually I'm alive and well, I dodged the cabs at the last moment, and now I'm free to rant about Ampegs all day and night! haha!
