Does anyone here know how the 4004C II compares in sound with a 4001v63 or 4001? The closest thing I can imagine that it would sound like would be the new Gibson Thunderbirds, since they are also neck thru body and have two humbuckers. I have read Lemmy's comments on the bass humbuckers and he seems to like them a lot. Thing is, I haven't ever SEEN a 4004 of any kind in any store(I live in the Dallas area). I would bet they sound great with the humbuckers, and I saw one on John Williams site(translucent blue - very cool lookin'). I tried posting this on another newsgroup but most of the talk over there is off topic stuff about some flamer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

I have a 4004C1-the one with the walnut body and gold hardware-and I love it. I don't know how it stacks up to a Cheyenne 2 or a Gibson Thunderbird, but mine has a distinctive sound. The humbuckers have alot of power and punch but (to me) don't seem to have as much treble punch as a traditional 4001. My 4004 has a nice round tone to it when both pickups are on, more definition when the bridge pickup is on-but still rounded, and it sounds like most other rick 4001, 4003 ect. when the neck pickup is used alone. It has an intresting sound when you thumb slap and pop funk style when both pickups are on.
A sort of Mark King sound on the early Level 42 stuff..Of course the sound also depends some on your playing style too..
