The detuning thing has been accepted as the "right" way for as long as I can remember. Maybe what JH was saying about acoustic guitars was simply broadened out of lack of understanding to include all stringed instruments. BTW do you all avoid swimming for a 1/2 hour after eating to avoid craps? :-) However unnecessary, alot of people do.

I have just received from my insurance company a copy of the agreement between the aviaton authority and music union allowing guitars to be carried on board now instead of in the hold...

When I fly with my band, my guitar player always gets to carry at least one of his guitars on board the plane, while they they me my bass guitars are too big, they have to go with the luggage...that really pisses me off !

I got hassled about that once flying from Florida to Michigan with my 1962 Gibson SG, and I told the waitress....errr...stewardess that I WAS going to carry it on, that if it went in the luggage compartment I was going to expect her to pay for it if something happened to it...she let me bring it on with a smile. I actually played it on the plane to the delight (?) of the other passengers. See what bloody marys and airplane travel can do?
