What is the average output of a '64-'68 horseshoe pu? A friend of mine has a '68 4000 that just booms. We checked the output and it was 11.1k! The pu looks stock- Could it be a custom job? Were 4000 pu's wound hotter?

Yeah, it could be a custom job. How about a picture of the pickup? Were 4000 pickups wound hotter? My guess is, not in the late 60's.

Have to wait a little bit for a picture, waiting on a new camara. Now I'm wondering if someone along the line tried to re-charge the horseshoe and over did it, if thats possible.

Chris all that does is make the magnet's charge stronger, it has nothing to do with the impedance. That is from more turns of wire in the pickup. I'll bet it was rewound.

The mid to early 60,s are around 7.5K. Bob,s right about the charge and I,d agree with him about it being rewound. 11.1K is way more than I ,ve ever seen from this period.
