That Sweet Checkered Binding

I think that checkered binding looks SO COOL. Anybody know why it's not offered on more models?

As far as I can tell, it's only standard on the 660 and the 381. It's not mentioned on the 'Options and Colors' page of the RIC website, although I seem to remember that it used to be. That CB is so deluxe!

The checkered binding is also standard on the 380L, although it kind of gets lost there at the back. All of the acoustic models feature checkered binding, too. It looks particularly attractive as a sort of "rosette" around the edge of the sound hole. It's not offered on every model because then it wouldn't be special anymore. In fact, if it was standard on every model, we'd all be chomping at the bit for the plain stuff.

Another reason it's not on every model is that it's quite expensive, time consuming, and a pain in the *** to do well.

And we all thank you for doing it so well too!

I have it on my 660 and it really sets the guitar off nice.

I wish they would put the checkered binding on a few 4003's again like they did with the toasters. That would be real cool to see again.

I always wondered where the inspiration for that design came from....

Oh great - thanks a lot. Now I'll never be able to look at a RIC the same. Image
