Does a 2 pickup version of a 350 exist?

Post by spike »

Is there (or perhaps was there) ever a 2 pickup version of a 350 style guitar?

Tom: The 350 is a full scale model of the 320. It was first introduced in 1985. Barring customized work, I know of no Model 350s that have had two pickups. Such a model would certainly be a rarity.

While a specific instance doesn't immediately come to mind, I have no doubt that we've made some that way.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that my buddy in N. Ireland has one because it's a 350/12 LH RH and originally had a John Kay circuit in it. That circuit doesn't support 3 pickups.

Thanks John. Another bit of interesting Rickenbacker history recovered. Were there any Model 350s with two or three pickups made with an f-hole besides the Mark Hudson 350?

Tonewerks: Based on a number of comments made on forums over the years, I don't believe that Mike Campbell's "350" was made by Rickenbacker.

OK, so shoot me if this might be erroneous info, but I first heard of this guitar from John Jorgenson back in the early 90s, and he told me that Campbell said Rick did that guitar for him.
I guess only JH knows for sure.So just what IS with that guitar??I know John told me that Rick made up a 24 fret 3 PU 350-12 for him, at a time when it wasn't actually a production instrument.

Don: I do not have any direct detailed information regarding Mike Campbell's Model 350. You are right, John Hall will know the details.

Proceed with the discussion Dr. Evil. Perhaps the instrument in the photos should be referred to as a Model 350F.

I saw him play that on an old Saturday Night Live, "Into the Great Wide Open" I think. I rembember it because they showed a pretty good closeup during the slide solo and the pickup switch was placed a little more out of the way of the strumming hand. I've never been able to find out anything else about it or seen other pics.

One of the very first Capri prototyes from 1957 could be referred to as a two pickup 350 or a full scale 310. Seven piece top with painted on soundhole.

The guitar in the pic I posted appeared on ebay recently. Seller described it as a custom made 320 with "wider nut and wider body". A toaster in neck position, the other one is a humbucker. Has a Mike Campbell signature.
