DVD!?!
DVD!?!
I just visited Amazon.uk intending to put my order for the BBC CD, just around the corner. Very surprisingly, I found for sale an Audio DVD, called The Searchers- the very best (I think). Very little information given, but the picture of the cover shows Searchers#1! Information please!!
What is this?
Can hardly wait!

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!
OK. I can see now it's possibly not a great buy. But can anyone tell me what's the difference between an audio dvd and a cd? Or what's the difference between a video DVD and an audio DVD??
Which of these formats includes living pictures?

I trust this may help Einar, however, it may raise additional questions as well.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

My band's web designer is telling us we are absolutely crazy to be issuing a music only CD-that they are passe...we must issue a multi-media thingy...great, I say, but it's big bucks to produce. Basically a music CD with video in 5.1, hidden songs that would only be accessible by playing it on computer through our website. The multi-media CD would also trigger secret rooms on our website, etc. I tell him no one's that interested in us in the first place. I suppose this is the way things will go.
Thank you all a lot. I'm a little wiser, but not totally sure. As I understand it, an Audio DVD at least offers something to look upon on a screen, be it still pictures or moving film. I've ordered the Audio DVD anyway and anyhow, and will be glad to give my impressions when it has arrived. (If I have the equipment to play it, actually. You never know, these days). May be some weeks, though.

Well Michael, I've ordered it. And we'll see.
Visiting our neighbour town Östersund in Sweden, I came upon another DVD (video DVD). In fact two DVDs, vol.1&2, which featured 60'es artists. Can't remember exact title. One of the volumes featured two Searchers songs: Don't throw your love away and either Sugar and spice or Sweets for my sweet. Other artists included Gerry and the Pacemakers, Hollies and many more. I didn't buy the disc(s). Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is it worthy?
"Masters of the Sixties" or alike.

I've finally got the above mentioned, infamous DVD-AUDIO The very best of... The Searchers.
It contains 14 well-known Searchers tracks. Mostly Searchers#1 and #2 stuff, and a single #3 song (Have you ever loved somebody). As you know, there are much better compilations around.
The "DVD" part of it: Very poor! To each song, there's a still picture on the screen, showing the Searchers or selected members of the Searchers. In fact, it is not 14 different pictures used. The whole group picture may illustrate song 1, whilst an extract of same picture (ex. Mike and Chris) follows song 2! The illustrations are not even logically chosen. Frank may be represented for a song he's not even on! Maybe I haven't seen all the pictures before, but they can't be concidered a great attraction.
The DVD offers a "Liner Notes" selection, which brings 6 lines of Searchers history! No band member's name mentioned!
The sound of the product may be good or great, but I never cared too much about sound quality anyway.
So: Read Michael's last sentence on the subject, and there you are.
