I just bought a used 340 12 VP BG. Plays and sounds great . Am I right in thinking that the middle P/u is wired in with bass P/u? I'm a bass player so all these strings and P/u's make me nervous. Also any preferences regarding strings?

Yes Brian that is exactly right, the middle and neck pickups are wired in together. I like the compressed wound RIC strings on my 12 strings.
