Selling Of Your Rickenbacker
I noticed on another thread that Dedgoat had said a dealer had offered him a very low amount for a Blackstar. In line with this what are some of your experiences selling to and through dealers ? What percentage of selling values do they usually offer or what commisiions have you experienced when selling. Commissions I have been quoted vary between 25 - 30%. On the only guitar I asked about selling the price offered was about 50% of what I thought the selling price might be (based on ebay and dealer ads). But as it was one of the more desirable models I thought it a bit low and decided not to sell. I realize condition and model desirability affect all of this. Also what are peoples experiences selling on ebay ? I have bought there and not had a problem, but never sold.
I've sold on e-bay, parts and whole instruments. Generally transactions have gone good. 99.9% have paid me and I've only had one complaint on a guitar which had some monkey business under the trem cover. Anyway I kicked the guy back some dough and all was well. Generally on e-bay you will get what the market is willing to pay. The nice thing about e-bay is the amount of people looking at your merchandise. If you consign to a music store then you only have a finite amount of people who will ever get to see it. Chances of it sitting and never being bought are pretty good. The other thing is the 25-30% commission. That's a lot more than e-bay and paypal (if you use Paypal) charge. Dealers are rarely gonna give you close to what the guitar is worth in the outside market. They can only sell the piece at market price anyway so if they buy at high prices, they must sell at higher prices. Ebay has it's evils but for the most part if it's a shippable item (PAs and amps cost alot to ship) then I purchase/sell on e-bay.
a couple of Shadows a Blackstar and an Annie.
