Advice Needed

I'll be moving from NE Ohio to Charlotte in a couple of weeks.
I don't want to leave my guitars behind for my wife (or the movers) to deal with, but I'll be going down there in a pickup, and there simply isn't room enough in the cab for both of my Rics. Considering an eight hour drive in what I assume will be hot, humid weather, is there a problem hauling them down in the truck bed with just the cases and a basic snap-on cover for protection? This has me truly worried.

Go for it. I've moved guitars all over the country (including SC via Charlotte to NE Ohio in mid-July) in U-Haul trailers, etc. It's not optimal, but I've never had a problem. Just keep the cases closed tight while moving and for a few hours afterwards.
Anyway, that run may not be that brutal; if you're taking 77 to the WV turnpike to Bluestone, etc., it's a little cooler up in the hills. If you keep the back of the bed cover unsnapped and open, you might even get a little venturi effect breeze through the bed. And seeing as how it's a short and easy drive, you could always time the trip to travel during the cool part of the day (or night).
Of course, some people won't take their guitars from the living room to the bedroom without an environmental assessment. I'm sure you'll get a different viewpoint soon enough.

In the case, in the bed.....no problem, just like Adam said....leave 'em in the case a few hours afterward...done.
....of course, MINE would ride in the cab with ME!!

You could always get a new car. Who said RAS was confined to guitars and amps?

Keith: All things considered, as others have suggested, you will likely be fine in the short run. What you need to guard against is rapid temperature and humidity extremes.
I am not wild about any instrument in a black case baking in the sun.
If you are uncomfortable so are your Rickenbackers!

Thanks, everyone. The thought of being stuck in one of those "extended stay" hotels without my guitars to maintain my sanity was almost too much to bear. And yes, I'll be hauling the practice amp with headphone jack so as not to disturb the neighbors.
