This is a lap slide that I got from my grandparents from what I can tell it looks like a 54 or 55 student model. Everything seems to be intacked shy of the tone pot needing replaced. Serial is U5418, I have the knobs but didn't put them back on for the pics. Any info would be great; thanks.

Chad: Welcome to The Rickenbacker Forum. Some photos would be helpful in identifying the lap steel. Can you post a couple?

Chad: Thanks for the photos. This would be a Model 100 (Speckle) Lap Steel.

I'd love to hear what this model sounds like. Can you post some MP3s (add strings first). I've been considering a lap steel purchase & they've been on eBay recently.
Cheers,
Bill

I Need to Replace what I believe is the tone pot "the one closest to the pickup has come apart you can can turn it 360+ degrees." any recomendations for type I've heard of log and liniar type pots. Both pots are 500k and the codes read
"271-210 500k 137-" For consistancy I'll probably replace both tone and volume pots. And It's got one of the oldest style caps I've ever seen ".047 microferrad".

Would repainting it destroy the value?

Yes, painting it would indeed reduce its value.
