The 650 Series

I want one, but I don't. I love the more modern features (hb pickups, the bridge, the wider neck, 24 frets), but I HATE the colors. I want Mapleglo or Fireglo - giving it that mix of traditional RIC look with new appointments. The gold hardware would look great with either of these colors, the silver-not as good. I'm sure the line was designed to be a break with "tradition", but the true traditionalists would never consider one anyway. Am I out of line? Am I on the mark? Could I mod a 660? Sure, but I would still be 3 frets short, and out a whole lot more money. I'm prepared to withstand the flames, but I think most RIC enthusiasts will agree with me.

Ted: Have you looked at the black finish of the 650 Colorado? It makes a much better appearance than my old Jetglo 620, it's much more glossy and shiny, don't know why, but it looks VERY good. And the Walnut wood of my Dakota really looks STUNNING! Have you tried a 650? The pictures on the RIC website don't do justice to them in any way, they almost look like drawings....
I'm a big 650's fan!

More heresy on my part: I don't like Jetglo. I do think a 650 would look fabulous in Midnight Blue or one of the translucent colors they use on the 4004's. Unfortunately, I haven't tried a 650. As far as I know, there isn't a dealer within 200 miles of me (I'm in Madison, WI) that has one in stock. Chicago has Guitar Centers, but I doubt they stock anything besides 330's and 360's (I did see a 1997 there once). Milwaukee has Mars, but they don't stock much of anything in the way of Ricks. And according to Dave's Guitars' website, they don't have any 650's.

Good point Ted. There can be no doubt that the preferred colour of Rickenbacker enthusiasts is Fireglo. I agree that a Fireglo 650 would look great.

RIC should offer more colours anyway. Look what PRS does.

Hopefully, RIC will offer the 650 in more colors in the future.

More 600 Series guitars on their way late this year . . . in translucent colors too.

I'll try not to drool too much while I'm waiting. Sounds like a must-have.

Here's a 650 question: How do they compare in sound/tone to a modern 330 or 360? I have a 335 w/toasters, and would like a newer guitar. Musically, do I gain anything with a new 360 aside from stereo, and would a 650 be a departure from the "sound" (realizing neither would have toasters)? Is a 650 closer to a Telecaster? (I don't know why I think this). I think the red 650 looks wild, btw -- much better than a red 360.

I think I found my answer in another post, under "general". Sorry to take up space uneccesarily. (Although comments still welcome!)

OK..so I'm talking with myself here...so embarassing, but I am sure everyone's on vacation. I mean to compare the 360 to the 620. Now I am done. Forgive me.
