700 Series Acoustics Delays

I ordreed my new "Laramie 730L-12 in September of 2001, and there had been a an incredible wall of silence, until I received a very nice email from Rickenbacker last week to say I should have my new instrument by Christmas this year.

Apparantly they have totally re structured their acoustic workshop and have a huge back order list.

I would have however expected my guitar to arrive before now as it's been almost 3 years since the order went in and even Rickenbacker were a little perplexed that I should have been waiting so long.

My question to the forum is, has anyone else had long delays in receiving their acoustic orders for the 700 series, just curious that's all.

Wow.... Three years does seem like a really long wait, but I am sure that you will find that it was worthwhile when your guitar finally does come in! I was fortunate enough to get my 700C Comstock last summer when a music store had it up for auction on eBay; evidently they were selling their in-store demo model. Now it's the only acoustic I ever want to play....

And by the way, welcome to the Forum, Warren!

I hope you didn't have to put a deposit down.

Hi Adam & Melissa,

No I havn't paid a deposit at all thank goodness.

I was going to get the Comstock, but decided to go for the Laramie 12 string version.

I live in Sydney (Australia) and play a lot of PP&M and Seekers stuff and I have wanted a Rick acoustic 12 string for many years but I believe they only started making them in 2000 with 2 guitar makers from Austria.

Thanks for sharing with me

Hi Warren, I looked into ordering a RIC acoustic a little while ago and the dealer suggested that I wait a little because RIC was revamping their acoustic shop. I'm really glad that they're almost ready to go.

Hey Bob,

Yes, Jay at Rickenbacker Sales told me that they are all go in the new acoustic workshop and all the problems they faced have been ironed out. The major problem apparantly was that the workshop as it was very small area for such a precision instrument, but hopefully now all will be well.

I'm going to ask Rickenbacker about the possibility of changing my order from a Laramie L730/12 to the Shastra 700S/12 as there is only a price difference of about $US 360 or thereabouts, but if It's going to cause more delays that I've experienced I'll leave the order as it is.

Let me know when you order yours Bob, and what model you are choosing.

If I had money a Ric accoustic isn't too far from the top of my list, of course there's a few electrics I'd like ot get :D

Hey Warren,

I'm going to go for the Shasta, at least I believe that's the jumbo rosewood model in a 6 string. I'm about a month or 2 away from ordering one, I need to make sure that my job situation stays as is, which it should.

I did see that Shasta on ebay and was ooohhh soo tempted, but I can't right at this moment.

Best of luck with your's Warren, please keep us updated!!

Bob

Bob,

If there's a 3 year delay, you might as well place that order now. You won't need the money until 2007. Image

Oh my goodness,

I've just looked at the Ric "Shastra" 6 string on Ebay. current bid $US1500 that approximatly $AUS2800. What am amazing instrument, I'd make a formal bid but I think I'll wait for my 12string version, providing Ric can change my order.

Hey Adam,

I just might do that, I'm waiting for a price quote right now. Hopefully it won't be 3 years, but we shall see.

Hello Bob,

Yes, I fully agree with Adam I really think you should order your instrument ASAP, as the current waiting time is probably around the 12 to 18 month area.

The only reason I have waited for 3 years is that they ceased production till the new workshop was re fitted out, and although there is a sustantial back order for the acoustics, I believe production is to significantly increase over the next 6 to 8 months and I will have my guitar probably by Christmas.
