Fretboard lacquer cracking

Post by mr_gravy »

I just recently purchased a '92 MG 330/6 with black hardware and noticed that the lacquer on the fretboard is slightly cracking (checking?) at the base of some of the frets. I'm concerned this may spread and eventually the lacquer will start to peel off.
Was wondering what can be done, if anything about this. Or is this normal and should I just ignore it and play my guitar? Would appreciate any suggestions, guidance, info, etc. Thanks.

There is a thread somewhere in the Ric bass section about the same thing, I think anyway, it was maybe a month or two ago. Something about moisture getting in there or something like that.

I think Bob is referring to a post by me on what seems to be the same issue:
