Body Thickness on 360-370 "round top" models.......

Guys, what was the reasoning behind 'thickening' the top the 'rounded edge' 360/370 6 and 12 strings?? Case in point: a 370/12RM is deeper in the body thickness than its '60's counterpart. Were there structural issues here? Did it help the playability of the guitar or just a command decision at RIC? It looks as though the newer guitars are about 1/4-1/2" thicker in the body....anyone know when they made the change??

I can't explain the "reasoning", but based on all encounters with 60s Ricks, you basically would have seen 2 different thicknesses in these guitars; the "standard" would be 1-1/2" thick, but there are those that were also a bit thinner @ 1-3/8".The reissues from the last 15 years, including the RM 370-12 are 1-1/2" thick.
