Hair of the dog

If you own: cabs covered in black fuzz like my Ampegs and animals like my shedding huskies.. perhaps you have the same problem. I used to use a lint brush to get the hair off.. but noticing the cigarette burns on my bandmates' equipment.. I decided on a solution to the problem of hair covered cabs... blowtorch. I singed each cab in its entirety (in quick small circles to avoid over burning on an end stroke).. burning down the "velcro-like" nature of the covering.. it is now much nicer.. easier to keep free of dog hair.. a bit like sandpaper in texture but not such a hair trap. Try it on the bottom first, see if you like it.

I've always hated that furry carpet stuff with a passion. It just looks so cheap. I covered both of my 2x12 cabs and my 4-space rack with Ampeg BlueDiamond repro vinyl and finished them off with metal spring loaded handles, rubber feat and Ampeg metal corners. The vintage look goes well with my Ampeg B4R amp.

Yes .. me too... I recently needed to construct some racks for the band and covered them with black Tolex.. metal corners, edges etc... looks great. But we have all of these cabs with the fuzz.. I don't feel like re-covering all of them.. Tolex is expensive. I for one keep a practice amp with a few of these cabs here in the house.. and the dogs are indoor/outdoor and shed a great deal during the summer.. no matter how much I vacuum, the hair-magnet-cabs look terrible.. so.. Quest For Fire. It works though..one of the dogs was lying next to one of the 4x10s last evening.. today no unsightly hair. I may sound like Heloise.. but happy I am. Why does anyone use this stuff to begin with though?!! The MIDI pedal case is next to feel the burn. I'll try to avoid a FireGlo(w)!
