I'm in the process of re-finishing my guitar...

NOT my Rickenbacker, I would never touch that with a rotating sander, hehe.

Anyways this is the first time I ever do any kind of modding to a guitar, hey I'm only 18!
It was my first guitar, a Vantage Avenger if anyone is familiar with it...

I'm using some "oak" stain which my dad used to do the fence. It really brought out the character in the guitar.

So anyways when I get the stain to my liking, which won't take too long... Should Varathane do a good job as a finish?
Anyone has any tips on using it?

Or any stories about refinishing an old guitar are welcome

an oil based urethane, which is what varathane should be - some water based urethans are marketed as varathanes-
it will be hard and shiny, like a wood floor - (that is what most use on wood floors)

Nitro cell is the classic guitar finish
and is available in a spray can

I would opt for the nitro for a first go.

I would experiment a bit with the can on some scrap, see what makes a good finish...
