Since most of his first solo album was recorded at home, direct to reel-to-reel, I think his bass sound on that album is pretty different than the one he got in the studio. I can't even tell if it's the Rick of the Hofner, and those are pretty different sounding basses! Anyone care to venture a guess?

I was under the impression that the F****r Jazz was the one on the farm for those sessions.

Did he just use one bass for the whole record? I'm not sure, but I'd think he'd use different ones, as the mood struck him, if not for sound reasons.

The songbook that came out with the McCartney album shows Paul with his 4001s standing against a brick wall. There is even a poster of him in the middle of the booklet. I think the majority of the tunes is the Rick. Most of the bass tones are very muted but more punchy than his Hofner. Just my opinion.

Not all of the album was recorded in his basment, such as the track "Maybe Im amazed" Certainley tracks like "Junk" are rick, while I hear that more likley the track "Every Night" sounds like a jazz bass. I think the hofner Is likley on a few tracks considering that during that period (1970's) he begain using it again quite a bit
