Mike Pender has contacted the Rickenbacker Registration Page and provided some interesting information with regard to his Rickenbacker guitars and The Searchers' history. This information is available on the Needles and Pins Searchers' Information Page

Mike has agreed to answer more questions and I believe that his official page will include a question and answer section in the near future.

Peter,

Great job! any chance of John, Frank or Chris contributing in a similar fashion?

I think that Frank may be able to respond occasionally, however, he reserves this mostly for their Official Site. I don't think John or Chris are likely candidates. I have asked Chris Curtis to respond but it would seem that he is not interested in such a Forum at the present time. So Frank, John and Chris, if you are reading this, how about dropping us a line.

Questions were sent to Chris through a contact person. I can be reasonably sure that he got the questions and that he found them to be of little interest at this time.

Has Mike Pender ever mentioned why he left the Searchers?

I don't believe that Mike Pender has ever made an "Official: statement about why he left The Searchers. I have gathered from much discussion with other fans, however, that he was upset with the poor showing of their last release and felt that he may be more successful on his own. I am hoping that Mike will offer some more information at some time in the future. I have never asked him this question.

The last Searchers' album Mike played on was "Love's Melodies" ("Play For Today" in the UK). The Searchers (with Spencer James replacing Mike) released "Hungry Hearts" in 1989.

i spoke to mike pender about why he left the searchers in a chat i had with him in blackpool in 1987. he told me he left because he wanted to go back into the recording studio again and the others were not keen at that time. mike said as the chance of making records was why he went into the business in the first place he felt he had to make the break and take control of his own future and not just go along with what the others wanted. shortly after mike left he went back in the studio and recorded the exellent "its over" which was released on both 7 inch and 10 inch singles.
