I can't seem to be able to access the above links, however I believe they're the same you've put up on the Dudepit which I took a gander at yesterday.
Bridge and treble p.u. surround not Rickenbacker-made; maybe ditto for the pickguard and the toaster cover in the treble position; rest of the bass looks legit. Anyone?

I could access your links yesterday at the Dudepit but not since you edited them, and not here either. Yet I'm not having any trouble with my own Photobucket account.
But you can post them here directly from your hard drive as long as they are small enough -- I think the limit is 500x375 pixels and 36K.

Uh-oh...update from Photobucket below. Now I know why my album is okay but Frode's isn't:
Unfortunately Photobucket.com has suffered a catastrophic raid failure. This morning the same array that had been giving us problems earlier, crashed. We use Raid 5 on everything but the logical volume was corrupt and unrecoverable. We are rebuilding the disk now and then will recreate all of the albums which should be done late tonite. You will need to re-upload your pictures. If you had a paid account, we will refund your money or add 3 months to your subscription end date, whichever you prefer. This is a sad day for all of us here at Photobucket.com. The albums effected were V's v465-v499. We are truly sorry to those that lost their albums.

The serial number and neck pickup route agree on a 1975 vintage. All of the other features are consistent with a mid to late 70's vintage Rick bass. The bridge/tailpiece is an Allparts replacement. The treble pickup was replaced with a toaster which has Jeff Rath correctly points out does not have the growl normally associated with the treble pickup of a 4001/3.

Yep it's a '75. Anyway Ted's right, switch the pickups around and short the .0047uf capacitor running from the selector switch to the treble volume pot. You'll have an entirely new outlook on life. Right now she's probably pretty low on output with a heavy bottom lacking definition.

I will try switch them around. I have had some problems with the sound just like Wes describes. I have also had problems with "klicking" sounds during conserts. This summer I met another rickfan with two mid 70 4001. He had the same problem with "klicking" on both of them. He solved that with tape(?) on both of the mics. Anyone?

That's interesting; I have an '80 4001 which has cloth tape over the pole pieces of the treble pick up, I've always wondered what it was for.

LOL! Not quite spots, but something equally organic. Here's the story from the previous owner, Dave Meros:
"I made them myself out of some really wild plastic material that I found. It's almost like a tortoise shell look, but the dark highlights are little droplets with tails on them, much like sperm cells. In fact, that was the product name. they had a few different colors of it. . ."sperm/tortoise", "sperm/clear", etc. Hilarious"
Unusual, but he is my favorite bassist so I left the tape and sperm on. You should see the other one which came with the bass!
Of course, none of this helps Frode, but I like the story. (I'm a "Mr." BTW)

Also, that tape is not a bad idea for preventing the polepieces from oxidizing (from sweat) and neatly killing the pickup. The treble p.u. on a March 1986 4003 I received a couple of days back was dead for the very same reason (the seller had mentioned it, though).
