There has been some interest in my tone making so I'll post my experimental Spocks Beard/Rush/Yes tone that I'm working on with my Bass POD XT.Like I said this is a work in progress...and I play with my fingers,I can't use a pick worth a ****...

That's funny. I can get the so-called 'Squire sound', which I'd rather call 'the Rickenbacker tone', by simply using a 4001 bass and a TR35B amplifier.
'Drive'? 'Compression'? 'Decay'? 'Noise Gate'? Of what speakest thou??

I like the "Studio Tone" mod. I turn up the volumes and tones all the way on the bass and adjust the volume from the output control on the Pod. For the Geddy tone, I just dig in a bit harder with my plucking hand. Someone here once said that the tone is in the player. Very true....

The Holy Grail of bass tone (Or at least mine) is the Paperback writer/Rain tone. Fat, liquid, bright, all at once.

I've gotten a great sound with just my amp and no effects. Signal processing of any kind is just icing on the cake. While I do use a BOSS GT-6B, I don't always wanna take it. I think effect can often be a crutch.

I can't stand playing without my bass pod ...

1st of all it has a nice digital tuner ... 2nd it has compression ... then you add amp and cabinet modeling and distortion ... major cool ...

I use amp 360 bass=8 middle=2 treble=8 chan vol=10 compress=5 effect=rodent effect tweak=0 output level=4 cab model=acoustic 360 ...

I use the first pod ... I am thinking of getting the xt or the rackmount pro ...

The one downside of the pod it the weird little power supply ... if you forget it the you have to go dry ... bummer ... the rackmount uses an ordinary power cable ...

Thanks Brent. Were those settings used thru an amp or headphones? Can't wait to try em.

Through an amp Jack.Try it with the cabinet modeling off as well.

Wetton! of course! "Starless" is the epitome of his tone and dynamics. And Squire on Heart of the Sunrise, and Glover on Pictures of Home... Holy Grail!

Most anything Jon Camp did sounded great.

Agree Agree Agree. There are a bunch of great bass players from these era's and most of them are still rockin.

I would like to mention another one if I may. He's not ever mention on any lists of famous bassists but he is quite good the guy who played or plays for Jon Luc Ponty. I have the old Cosmic messenger cd around somewhere? He has some real cool bass lines in a few songs? Can't remember if the sounds are strange or if there straight forward but I do remember being quite impressed with his fingering. and the list goes on and on.
After reading these threads I guess I will have to buy a Spock's Beard CD would love to here something new that is complicated and well done musically! I think I may have mentioned before I am a YES fan could anoyone suggest one of their CD's? I see they have several? Thanks
