Nothing to do with Ricks really but I had to ask since so many people seem to enjoy tinkering with things on this site!
Anyway, I have a bog standard Jim Dunlop Crybaby and am obviously losing that low end when its switched on.
My question is: is there anyway of modifying this so that I can keep it from losing the bottom?
Any help gratefully appreciated!

I used to use a Morley Power Wah back in the day. I don't know why anyone would use a wah wah on a bass these days though.

I used to have a Dunlop Bass Wah. It was white, and had a Q-dial. I used it mostly for guitar, but our bass player used it too. It worked decently.

I have a Morley Dual Bass Wah - it's fun sometimes, mostly for the "freak out jams".
It's designed for bass, it doesn't lose ALL of the lows, but it does cut through.
Most of the ones made for guitar don't sound too good with a 4 banger.

Use ROS and run the treble pickup into the wah.

Yeah, whenever I do run the ROS I put all of my effects through the treble p/u through 4x10s.

I used to have one of the early envelope filter things...a Mutron III I think. It was pretty good for doing Chameleon. I didn't like it for guitar.

I'd like to get a hold of an envelope filter but at music stores here they stare back at you blankly.

I wonder - can a wah be modified to suit bass?

Check out the Digitech Bass Synth Wah. It has a pretty good auto wah/envelope feature plus a bunch of other cool sounds. I've had mine for about 3 months now & it's a blast.

I was just going to ask if anyone has tried that pedal! It seems to be the cheapest one I can get here. I have one ordered at the local music shop (to try out), but it will cost about NZ$250 (US$150). They don't ship to New Zealand at that site, but if I find one that does it'd cost around NZ$150 (US$80+shipping).
So I'll start searching... any other recommended sites?

So the Digitech is totally worth it? I play funk, and I believe Bootsy used a Mutron.

I think it's worth it, at least for the price.
I've never played through a real Mutron - I'm sure that they are better, but I paid $59 (after rebate) for my Digitech Bass Synth Wah...
I got mine because I recently saw Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple)in concert & he was using one. The auto wah is great because it's got the built in envelope filter - all the funk with minimal effort!
Plus there are 2 synth settings that are way cool. They may get old really quick for the other guys in the band, but I love em!

The only drawbacks that I see are that the pedal is not programmable, you have to bend down & switch all the settings if you want to change the effect. I guess that's how they keep it so cheap though.
Also, the examples in the manual are really good, but I find some a little harsh for the real world. I just adjusted some of the levels accordingly.

I had a Mutron III that is the filter. It rocks. I have used it for all kinds of interesting stuff and it is pretty entertaining.

I have the black Dunlop wah. It rarely sees any use. Very thin sounding. I do like it after a distortion pedal, but don't exctly do that every day. I would like to try the white model, but realize that I have limited used for that also.

I have owned my share of filters. The one thing I have found through my experiments with filters is this: that I do not have, nor do I bring in any way, "the funk."
