Hi all, I've got GAS and I'm looking to expand my Ric collection again. Unfortunately, I can't pay for another bass outright so I thought I'd float a couple of things that might be available for trade. Or if one of you has something cool available, I'd be prepared to eBay the following to get the cash required. Here's what's I'd be willing to part with for the "right" Ric:

1960 Gibson EBO (Les Paul Junior style NOT SG)
1969 Fender Telecaster bass
1976 Ric 4001 Autumn Glo
2002 Lakland SkyLine 4-94

I'm looking for a good 4001 V63, a pre-73 4001 or a 4002 (yeah, I know!). The only way that I'd let the AG 4001 go is for an earlier 4001 (not JG).

If anyone wants specific details on any of the basses available for trade, let me know and I'll get you specifics and photos. Thanks all for any consideration.

Hmm... was that EBO a Dudepit deal? If so, it used to belong to me and a string of other 'Pitters also. Cool bass.

Nope, the EBO had absolutely nothing to do with the Dudepit. FYI, it's 100% original with the exception of changed tuners because the banjo tuners were disintergrating. I just found that as much as I like the look and feel of the bass that I don't like the short scale nor the sound of the mudbucker - which is why I'm trying to find another Ric.

David, we are so much alike! apart from the fact that we want the same things and had the same idea at exactly the same time (see my thread "WTT: my Bass VI for your pre-73 4001" under Rickenbackers Wanted), I too had a red old Gibson bass that I bought only because it looked great (mine was an EB2C) and sold it because I didn't like the short scale and the muddy tone. The Ric clank is the complete opposite of the Gibson thud. But both basses are very elegant designs.

I love the sound of EB-2's I regret selling mine and will get another. An EB-2 is a medium scale bass, 32" or at least mine was (I think).

No, it's a nominal 30 1/2" (actual 30 1/4") like all short scale Gibsons. But they say the memory goes once you're past 50...not that I can remember who said that.

I have to have both Ric and Gibson EB-series tones in my arsenal. But the EB-2s don't have enough attack for me, that's why I like my EB-0L.

Dave is right, the EB is 30 1/4".

I thought Gibson made some that were long scale. They had a slotted headstock. Anybody know about these or am I hallucinating?

You're right they did make a long scale EB0, and EB3 that had a slotted headstock, looked ugly, but sounded great.

Ken - you are certainly not hallucinating. The model designation for the long scale EB's ends with an L - EB3L, EB4L. They are known to be serious neck-divers. Not all slotted-headstock EB3's are long scale.

Ugly? Them's fightin' words! The only other person who has ever said mine was ugly is my older son. But he likes five string active Jazzbass-shaped things and he also thinks Rics are ugly.

The slotheads were only made from late 1969 through 1971. Not all long scale Gibsons were slotheads, since the EB-0L and EB-3L were still available after 1971, and the EB-4L wasn't even made until 1972. And like Ilan said, not all slotheads were long scale.

Here's my 1971 EB-0L pictured with its buddy. It's not a real neck diver, definitely better than a semihollow EB-2.

I like Gibsons, just not the slot heads !!!

I had an Cherry EB3, and chose the "normal" head over the slot head, my local music store had both at the time. My Gibson was the first real "name" bass I owned bought it 1971, and I traded it in it in 73 to get my 4001.

Thanks for the update. Are the long scales less muddy? I have a 67' Kalamazoo that is deep in mud. It was a gift so I have no complaints.
