Toshiba EMI officially announced today that the Beatles greatest hits album "The Beatles 1" will be released on November 13. It consists of 27 #1 songs in the UK and/or USA, all of which have been digitally remastered. Total running time: 79 min. 12 sec.

Tuck: I continue to be amazed at the number of times The Beatles material can be repackaged without anything new. I am wondering whether we will hear the difference on any of these digitally remastered songs compared to the version that is currently on CD.

I agree, Peter, and another repackaging doesn't seem very exciting to me. That the lads continue to sell so well is remarkable. As a personal footnote: after listening and relistening many times to the fascinating Anthology versions of so many tunes, I have a difficult time getting into the "final" versions released originally. It has been wonderful to catch a glimpse of a song's evolution, and I was especially intrigued with "And Your Bird Can Sing" on Anthology.

Where is the Hollywood bowl concerts?

where it the Original Get Back?

Where are the Esher House practice tapes for the White LP/CD?

Where are the Ed Sullivan shows?

Where are the live tours ?

Come on ....theres more than this?
They could put out a CD of songs that were not singles that could have been.
how about a Paul is dead CD! sorry just kidding.

I agree . I miss not being able to have the Hollywood Bowl shows on CD.

There should be some decent audio masters of the 65' Shea Stadium show & the 66' Japan shows as those are both out there on bootleg video.... opps did I say bootleg : )

I would rather see the British albums digitally remastered, similar to what Columbia did with the original Bryds albums. However, I have read somewhere recenty that McCartney was not real excited about remastering the Beatles albums. He felt that you loose some the orginal sound of the period if you clean it up too much.

I hope they had Geoff Emerick do the engineering on the remastered stuff. What a talented guy. He did alot on his work with The Beatles & McCartney to bring Paul's Bass to the fore.

So wouldn't you all be interested in hearing the singles remastered? I'd be especially interested in hearing such early hits as "All my Loving" remastered so I could hear the bass better. Isn't that what they are referring to when they say "digitally remastered"? Or am I confusing remastering with remixing?

I agree with all of you. Another compilation does nothing for me. But... I'll probably buy it. How sick is that? The thing that gets me is that it isn't even their best stuff. Where is Strawberry Fields Forever, Revolution, Mr. Moonlight. (Just kidding about the last "1" but you get the idea.)

I think all of you are right when you say this album is not the best they could have put out, but the tracks sound better than those on the albums. But the "deleted" lead guitar part in "Day Tripper" can be heard in this new version... Did they used their Casinos to record this track???

I believe that the riff at the beginning is
George on his Tennesean with flatwounds
Paul playing his Hofner with flat wounds
john playing his 325 -strings?
The solo is an overdub of George playing his Daphne blue strat (this later got the wild paint job in Magical Mystery tour)
it had either flat wounds on it (stock equipment in those days)or really bid strings with a wound 3rd thru an AC-30 Vox amp

As I look at the first record I owned, The Beatles
45 Rain/Paperback(with the orange and yellow swirl
that would hypnotize you!).I remember what it was
like setting the needle back, before the songs were even over.Coming from a oldtime/bluegrass
household ,that bass playing sounded like from
outerspace!I hope some kids get this greatest hits CD for christmas,and get that same feeling!
I don't know if kids will be listening to their
Backstreet Boys albums in 30+ years! By the way,
how did you like the Lennon thing on TV last nite?
It seemed like they got his rickie right,didn't
they?

Your right Me!I gave it to my girlfriend,she
needed a Beatles education.I heard it tonight at
the Mellow Mushroom Pizza and some songs make
people stop eating and listen!Here is an idea,what
if they posted songs on the "Beatles web" that
you could alter the tracks interactive,then Squirebass could get his wish!

Having listened to #1 a few times now I'm still not sure about the re-mastering. There's a lot more separation between instruments and voices, which each stand out more in the mix. That's great if you're trying to learn the songs, but I don't think it does anything for the overall sound : I think generally I prefer my original vinyl.
