G'Day from down under,
Just like to place this here for others who may encounter similar problems. I bought a 360/12v64 Ric recently and it had a dead pickup in it. The first place I went for some assistance was to a technician at Rickenbacker, via email.
Now for obvious safety reasons I guess they have to be a little careful when giving out information to people, that if not followed precisely, could lead to some tragic accident or further damage that these people may somehow construe as Rickenbacker's fault, (ah the litigious society we now live in.) So apart from the obvious check of disconnected wires and checking that jack connections were effective, they weren't of much help. So where to from here?
I posted info of my plight at a number of forums, only got two replies and both from this forum! The first told me to check wire connections at the pickup and to check the resistance of the pickup. The wires were okay but got infinite resistance, end of the road. The other was from a fella named Mark Arnquist who chose to reply to me via email, never really worked why he did that, but who cares!
I think all up Mark must have got me to do about a dozen checks, one at a time and then report the results back to him before setting me off on another test. The end result is my bass pickup now works!!!
I would like to thank this forum for being in existence; it's been more than helpful to me on a number of occasions. I would also like to acknowledge Mark's efforts; an extremely helpful fella and quick with follow up info. Without his assistance I would have nice guitar but with only one active pickup. If anyone out there has a similar problem, Mark has given permission to me to pass on these tips for all to share.
Cheers
Ron
