JETGLO - Paint match ???

Hi
I have just acquired a 67 335 that was formerly JETGLO but has been stripped and varnished (ugh). I want to get it restored back to jetglo, but need to know the best paint match, or indeed if JETGLO paint is still produced and if I might be able to purchase any ?

Varnishing is generally done with a brush and has a slow kick off rate.If you have brush marks ,this could indeed be Varnish.
Rick uses a product called 'Conversion Varnish'
This is NOT the same type of material .
You could use several types of paint ,but this will require spraying equipment.
You could use an OEM quality Catalyzed Urethane,
Catalyzed Lacquer,or an Automotive Catalyzed Urethane.All of these are available and do not require a specialized gun .....you can not use a latex house painting gun .It would be like using a garden watering hose to spray with.
There is NO rattle can paint that will really do the job either.Because of the propellants ,you would have to shot one coat every three days and keep the instruments at 80 degrees or more during the whole time .Touch up by repair guys using rattle cans shows up at a later time .I have yet to see a good usage of one.
The black can be had from the same paint supplier as the clear.

Having the knowledge to do something is a wonderful thing...

Thanks very much for your response - I am going to give the guitar to a luthier to restore, I just wanted to be able to challenge him with the correct procedures / materials. I rather got the impression he was just going to 'restore it back to black' which I wasnt sure was good (or accurate) enough

If a person accidentally banged up or nicked a Ric with a Jetglo finish would that guitar have to be sent back to the Ric factory for finish repairs? Or can any 'qualified' luthier fix this finish of conversion varnish?
I guess a person in this situation could always get a toothbrush and a pint of black paint to make it look like Lennon's in latter days! ha ha
