Recently I was given a jetglo solid-body Ric, but its not from the 600 series. It looks identical to a 4001 bass, only its a guitar with a short scale neck. The condition isn't so hot - its got an "R" tailpiece, but the nameplate has fallen off.
Can you help with 2 things?
1. tell me what model this is?
2. how can i go about getting another nameplate to attach?
Thanks for your help!

Zachary: There are some good guys who know of this model that will help you...It is either a model 480 or 481..some questions you should answer would be:
Does the guitar have a bound Body?
What kind of inlays are on the fretboard?
This will help in determining what you have...
Good luck !

thanks for the reply, lefty.
It does not have any bindings, and its got dot inlays on the fretboard - does this info help at all? What years was this model produced? I couldn't find any info at all on it on the Rickenbacker official site.
Thanks!

Yes, thats it! Thanks Peter!
Can any answer part 2 of my plea - where can i purchase a new name plate for this guitar? I'd like to start trying to restore this thing, or maybe get it in a condition that i could sell it. The pickguard is cracked too, i should probably look into finding a new one of those too.
Thanks again!

Zachary: The pickguard request is easy.
[email protected] is your man and I expect the cost to you will be in the vicinity of $55 US. The nameplate, however, is a more difficult challenge as you will need to turn in an old one to get a replacement. I would write
[email protected] at RIC and explain your situation.

Great! Thanks for your help everyone, this is definitely the most useful (and friendly) message board I've ever come across.
Cheers!

I believe the 480 was made from '73 through '84. I had a '73 (stolen) and now have a burgandy '82.
Good luck on your restoration - let us know what you think of the guitar after you get to know it.
