R75B Amp

Post by Jim_Langlois »

I have an R75B amp ser.#004171. Can anyone tell me the year and rarity (if at all) for this unit? I find it an excellent practice amp. Would it be wise to upgrade the speaker or would this affect value?

There should be a two letter prefix on the serial number tag which would be helpful in detrmining the year of manufacture, off the top of my head I'd say 86-87. They're fairly rare as they weren't made in any large quantity, although I'm not sure that makes them necessarily valuable. Fortunately for all of us, Rickenbacker amplifiers are still quite reasonably priced on the vintage market. The stock speaker was made by Eminence and was designed especially for that amp. I'm not sure that an upgrade would be worth the effort. As you have already found out, this is a terrific sounding bass amp!
Show him the shirts, Adrian.
