Too bad in the fact that it is a 4000 with set neck and the neck ended up being routed for that pickup. Good in the fact that it is probably very light and sounds like a million bucks....I'll bet it was fireglo at first...

it is hard to tell but that looks like it might have an allparts tailpiece with a real ric bridge ...

Shouldnt the TRC say Model 4000 ? Would it have black trim for that matter?

Some do, and some don't..my 73 doesn't say that and it is a plexi TRC. I did not notice the bound neck...That is something...It would be interesting to find out the s/n and see if the Ric database has any special info about it. The neck is not going to be as strong because it was routed. BUMMER 4000's did not have body binding so, no on the black trim....

I agree with Jeff on the bridge, notice what looks to be square holes instead of oval, for the strings to pass through. If its a '72 I'd think the bridge would also be the old slotted type. Tuners are wrong.

It's a total refin so I am not amazed that there are replacement parts. What do you guys think this is truly worth? I have the 73 4000 and this is a radical departure from my 4000

That looks like a replacement fingerboard. Even with the binding, the dots are wrong. The wood is too dark and there should only 2 dots after the 12th fret.

Jaymi, is that correct for 72s? My 73 4000 has 3 dots after the 12th....the f/board is definitely too dark. BTW my TRC doesn't say 4000 on it either and its a plexi too. Got to say 4000 basses (even though I've got one - still!!!) and "s" types aren't my strong point, but could this just be a doctored 4001s set neck?

That could be...THe only way to tell for sure would be to either get before pix or take the bass apart, ruin the finish under the p/g and see what you have....either way a real pain...I still want your 4000...

Hell I'd buy it just because it's different. Not a fan of black pickguards, so that would have to go, and a white one would have to take its place along with the HO neck pick up for a toaster. But I'm weird like that.

I noticed the mono output...but still thought it might be a 4001 and the seller was confused. There were some mono 4001's put out in the early 70's. But the lack of body binding really gives it away, I suppose.

I have it on good authority that the neck binding is original and the bass was a 4000 from the start. No clues on color etc but it is original to that point. The neck dot is also correct and it really looks like the fretboard has been stripped. I am rather hesitant simply because of the fact that there is enough wood removed from the neck pocket(where it is glued in) to make me think that the neck will not be stable for the rest of its life. I have not gotten a serial number but set neck started in 73(?) and this is probably a 73....
