Yeah, now you see why I was asking so much initially. But I'm glad you got it. I'm just as happy with my Monte. Still on the lookout for a quilted natural 4004Cii and a Sea Green.

I wish, I wish... Image

What a HOT bass...good luck to whomever gets it.

One day...now that I'm playing bass. When I finally have the $ I'll probably get antsy and get a Laredo.

Jeff,

Would this be convertable to a 5 string? If so, I might bid and ask you to modify if you are willing to take this on.

Thanks,

Paul

yep ... I already have the gold 5 string bridge ... I got that bridge to specifically convert a 4004C or CII to a 5 string ... I already converted a 4004L to a 5 string and it works fine ...

that's why I was bidding on it ... I wanted to convert it to a 5 string bass ...

Jeff,

Didn't realize you had actually bid on it. Don't want to jump in if you really want this. What do you think this one is worth?

Thanks,

Paul

another one like it sold on ebay for about $1375 recently ... but music 123 sells new 4004L basses for about $1129 ... I would say it is worth $1100 ... but it will probably sell for more ... I will probably get out bid ...

I want it but I won't over pay for it ... if you want it Paul then you are welcome to bid as well ...

New Cii’s are averaging $1350. If this is mint than I’d say it probably will go around $1300!

That’s a good price at 123 but I’ve never seen have one available!

And in my opinion – just my opinion – it would be a shame to convert this bass to anything…..

I'm not so sure about that, the way Ricks tend to hold their value, personally, I would think that a first generation Cheyenne 4004 would be worth more,(or as much), as a new 4004 Larado, simply because of the supply and demand factor.

Go for it Jeff, between your 4004 Larado/425 and a first generation 4004 Cheyenne/425 you would pretty much have it covered.

I'm sure that they would have two very different voices.

I'm also thinking of getting a 4004CII trans red and convert it to a 5 ... but the walnut body wings and oil finish are kinda nice ...

I'll reiterate my objection to doing irreversable mods on out of production instruments. Is it any wonder the prices for intact guitars has skyrocketed? How many CIs are there out there? Not many from the looks of it.

Jeff I respect your opinion ... but you know once I buy a bass it is mine ... I really don't care about preserving a quantity of vintage instruments ... I am more concerned in having basses that will do what I need them to do ... I really don't care about collecting Ric basses ... I am interested in having a few good 5 string basses ...

Well, then I guess there should be no complaints about all the massacred instruments that pop up on ebay, since their owners probably felt the same way, nor should we be complaining that good vintage or limited edition instruments are beyond reach from a price perspective.

There are many, many other options for good 5 string basses out there. You are correct, once you've laid down the cash, you are entitled to do what you want with it, but don't be surprised when those like myself have a negative reaction.

No offense intended.
