This is well known info. Jason Lollar does great work and is a heck of a nice guy. He does not make many pickups and there is usually a wait.

Are they still available? I thought RIC stopped him from producing...

I'm not sure what the deal is there. I don't think it is a patent issue because Beauchamp's patent would have expired around 1957. RIC has trademarked "Toaster Top" to describe instrument pickups and has apparently also applied for one for "Horseshoe Pickup" or something similar. If all of that is true then horseshoe magnet pickups can be made but they can't be called "horseshoe" pickups. Jason still lists them among his offerings.

Jason, shut up. You don't even have your RIC yet.
So, has anyone used these Lollar "slippers?"

I believe the issue is that RIC has filed for a trademark on the name horseshoe as it relates to pickups. If you look at the horseshoemagnets.com site (and I believe Jason is a partner in that venture) you will see that they only use the term horseshoe when describing the magnets. The completed pickup units are now referred to as "h-shoes".

You guys can put whatever you want on your basses, I'll keep mine stock.
This is the very thing that drove John Hall away from this forum anyway.
A very sad day on the Rickebacker Forum.

I agree that the whole thing got a bit confused but I don't think JH cares what we do to our basses. The way I see it, he was merely pointing out a potential trademark issue. He has never done or said anything to give me the idea that he was approving / dissapproving our mods.

Well, what I'd LIKE to put on my bass is a GENUINE RIC "Vintage Treble Pickup Assembly" (
http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdf/bpickups.pdf), but I have been informed by RIC that, "the treble pickup for the 4001v63 bass is not currently available as an accessory."
So, if RIC doesn't make what I want available to me, then I'll have to find another source; whether I make it myself, or a list member makes it, or if it's manufactured commercially.
Know this: (Since I started this thread) I would rather buy ALL parts from RIC.
