Hello Mark,

You answered my question concerning a 4001 treble pickup on the Rickenbacker newsgroup yesterday. For that I thank you!!! However, after following your instructions, it doesn't seem to be working properly. I took a resistance reading on the coil wires and it was about 2.5 MegOhms, well above your suggested range of between 5-10k. Of course the output is next to nothing compared to the neck pickup.
I fear that the coil must have been damaged in some way. Aside from replacing the coil, do you have any other suggestions??

It sounds like you were holding the meter leads on with your fingers.That kind of reading usually means that you are getting the resistance of your body!

The coil is dead ,most likely and need to be rewound .

I can help you with that .It may be that the end of the coil is broken and just needs to be resoldered.
But it also ,from the sounds of what was done to the pickup ,may be a case of unwinding TOO much to find the break.Then rewinding is the only way to fix it.

As I mentioned in my original newsgroup post, it was given to me that way and I don't know what the kid may or may not have done to it. But, indeed, it appears to be dead.
