_IN A SUPERMARKET I BOUGHT A 2-FER DEAL OF A

COUPLE CD'S IN ONE PACKAGE . ONE CD HAD HERMAN'S

HERMITS . THE OTHER HAD THE SEARCHERS . THE BOTH

OF THEM HAD RE-RECORDS OF THEIR BIG HITS . THE

HERMAN'S HERMITS CD HAD SOMEONE ELSE OTHER THAN

PETER NOONE LEAD SINGING . I EXPECTED

RE-RECORDS , SO I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED . THE TWO

TOGETHER COST $9.00

_THE SEARCHERS CD WAS ENTITLED THE SEARCHERS

GREATEST HITS , ON THE PRIME CUTS LABEL ,

# SLO23632 , MADE IN QUEBEC . ( RIGHT NEXT DOOR

TO YOU PETER .)

_THE SONGS ON IT ARE :

SWEETS FOR MY SWEET

SUGAR AND SPICE

LOVE POTION #9

NEEDLES AND PINS

DON'T THROW YOUR LOVE AWAY

BLUE MONDAYS

BROKEN HEARTS

WALK IN MY ROOM

GOOD BYE MY LOVE

_WHEN WERE THESE SONGS RECORDED ? DO THEY HAVE

MIKE PENDER OR SPENCER JAMES ON THEM ? IS THIS

VERSION OF "NEEDLES AND PINS" , THE MELLOW ONE I

HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT ON THIS BOARD ?

_QUESTIONS , QUESTIONS , QUESTIONS , TO BE

ANSWERED .

This would be the same CD in my view RJHC. This is the mellow version of Needles and Pins recorded by MIKE PENDER'S SEARCHERS. I quite like it.

There are various versions available, of the recordings MP's Searchers made, some have three new tracks plus slow "Needles" and some versions, harder to find though, have four new tracks plus "Needles" slow version. The extra track is "Two hearts".

What is clear however is that it is this sort of release, which purports to be "The Searchers", that has caused litigation between the two fractions to take place in the past.

I am always wary of CD's which in small print, state "In order to achieve superior sound, tracks have been re-recorded by some or all of the the original artist/s". This release probably didn't state that though and gives punters the impression they are buying original recordings.

_SINCE I'M AN EXPERIENCED RECORD BUYER I WAS ABLE

TO RECOGNIZE RE-RECORDS , YET SINCE I'M THAT BIG

OF A SEARCHERS FAN I COLLECT RE-RECORDS OF THIS

GROUP . A LESS EXPERIENCED BUYER WOULD SEE THE

NAME "THE SEARCHERS GREATEST HITS" AND BUY THIS

CD TAKE IT HOME AND BE DISAPPOINTED .THEY WOULD

EXPECT THE REAL THING ! I WAS STUNG ONCE ON AN

ALBUM OF LITTLE RICHARD'S GREATEST HITS

RE-RECORDS .

_ON HIS WEB SITE , PETER NOONE RAILS AGAINST

RE-RECORDS OF HERMAN'S HERMITS HITS WITHOUT HIM

SINGING . HE FEELS IT RUINS HIS REPUTATION . YET

I COLLECT HERMAN'S HERMITS RE-RECORDS BECAUSE I

ALREADY HAVE THE ORIGINALS AND HERMAN'S HERMITS

ARE ANOTHER UPPER ECHELON GROUP LIKE THE

SEARCHERS . I WANT TO GET ALL OF THEIR STUFF TOO .

I am sure RJHC you are a experienced record buyer, I was merely trying to make the point, that this type of release is technically fraudulent, because it is not The Searchers.

Neither Mike's or John's Searchers to get technical, can really produce that original sound, as they say "You can get back to the place, but not the time"
