Here it is, my 1974 4001 "Burgundy Glo".

Like Mitch said, it's more like Tomato Glo. To me, it's "rust" colored. Totally awesome if you ask me. Like I said, it's a player's bass. Not mint, but perfectly beat up. I totally love the vibe!! The serial is NA225. The bridge PU is from a 4003, so it's hotter. The tuners, knobs, pickguard, PU plate, and PU cover are all replacement parts. The bridge is slightly pitted, but not too bad. Pictures really don't do the guitar justice. The color is very cool. The wear comes off much more "yellow" in the pix. It's not as pronounced in real life. You'll see that I filed the tuner down on top because it was too big. Works great. I've got Pyramid Flats on it and it's killer.

Anyway, yeah - here's mine for comparison. Your's really is TomGlo! Congrats on the score.

You know.. I got this bass of mine all dialed in. It's way cool. The color, tho' not really "Burg" is just awesome in person. I'm very happy w/ how it looks, no matter if it's a little worn. The action to me is killer (best I've ever had), and the sound is awesome. However, I have some kind of wacky obsession w/ the Montezuma Brown finish. Would I be crazy to sell this bass and buy an MB?? I mean, i'd be giving up a vintage 74 that is totally broken in and awesome, and one I can really PLAY without being real nervous about "dinging" or a light scratch... Or do I get that awesome MB color... all nice and new, mine from the start to break in how *I* want it broken in? What would you guys do?

I mean, I don't think that the MB will be any more "collectable" that the BG that I have. Maybe it will. Maybe the Turquious will be the more rare finish. No one really seems to have those. But I'm not really trying to "collect" something for the "rareness' of it. I just want a bass that makes me want to play it at all times!

I don't know what to do!

It looks more like walnut to me. Here is a shot of my Walnut 76 4001, or BrownGlo as I like to call it, for reference. I think that it may be rarer than the BurgundyGlo, as I have only seen pictures of one or two others.

I believe Jpoprock's 4001 is a very, very faded BG.

Yeah, it's def not walnut. But it's not at all burg either. I've never seen one like it. The color is really killer though. It's supposed to be a Burg though.. but it has more of a Fireglo without the Glo look.

So.. what to do about my MB conundrum?
