Standard tuning or D for a 360/12

I have heard from several different luthiers that I should keep my 360/12 tuned in D and use a capo on the 2nd fret. D causes less tension on the neck. Is this true? Will the neck get damaged over time if it is always in standard tuning? Thanks

I don't have a 12, but I don't need one to tell you it's true that it'll cause less tension on the neck.
I doubt that you really need to do this, as far as I know not that many people do this. So it would be really up to you...
Some more knowledgeable people will answer you in great details soon I'm sure

Tuning down a step:
Less tension - yes
Necessary precaution - no

I'd say only if you plan on putting it in the case and squirreling it away for several years.
