Does anybody know what is going on over at voxtalks? After nick banned AOL (which I thought wasa good idea), i couldn't log on. So sent nick an email and he very nicely pointed me to another way in (thanks Nick). I go to visit there just thsi afternoon,, usinig the backdoor in, only to find that once again my access has been denied. Did 6120 get in there and start causing trouble again? somebody tell me what is going on.

Nick lifted the AOL ban, but banned Crowley and Fab Guitars.

I found the AOL ban to be draconian and the outlawing of Crowley must have one hell of a story behind it as John's Fab Guitar site was pretty amazing (although John seemed quite the droll character).

Too much drama for me

Is John's site accessible anywhere? I can't get to it now.

It was only located on two of the domains that I own, voxtalks.com and beatlesgear.com

I would assume that John is looking for a new place to hang his hat and it will be back shortly.

I have banished myself from voxtalks. While it is interesting and informative, I found it clique-ish in the extreme and people tended to gang up on you if you had a different opinion.

Well, what was your stupid opinion? Right guys?

Mostly, it was my opinion that vintage guitars sound better than new ones (of course assuming the vintage piece doesn't have serious problems). I just think that 30 or 40 years of heart and soul, not to mention vibration and wear in all the good places, is not reproducable. The "C" and "V" series Ricks and Gibson, Martin, and Fender Custom shop guitars are great! They represent a new Golden Age in guitar making. But I just think that guitars that were made at the time that the music that we all love was being made AND were made by the same people, with the same materials, on the same assembly lines, etc. have something special about them. Call it VIBE if you want. But ...jeez, those voxtalkers just heaped scorn on me if I advanced that theory. I entered that site in the first place because I thought it was a place to discuss vintage guitars.

By the way, after being "Rick-less" for a couple of years, just yesterday I bought a pristine '67 360/12 in Fireglo (a very deep red). It is AWESOME!!! I hope that I will be welcome here.

I browse/post there, here and on Tim's Gretsch board. Of the three VT tends to be MUCH more political - sometimes I wonder if it is because Nick tries so hard to keep it apolitical. Its almost like people try to "slip one in" on him. It probably simply has more to do with the volume of traffic.

Jazzsmith - I don't notice a bias there AGAINST vintage instruments (or vintage opinions in general). The board has a feel to it and it is what it is.

Jazzsmith, welcome. Would love to see pics of your '67 360/12. BTW, for me, it IS the vibe that the vintage guitars have. Just something about them. I do like the new ones too.

Jwilli: Please understand that I say this with your best interest at heart.

Re-route the three burgundy's to my place for safe keeping and I will send them back to you, at the rate of one per year. That way it will help both of us. Your wife won't know about them as they will slowly accumulate at your place over a perod of three years and my wife will see me getting rid of a guitar every year for three years!

Jazzsmith: Welcome and nice guitar. It is tough to beat the Fireglo Rickenbacker 12 string. Glad you have found a vintage 360/12 model. "Oh I can't sleep at night, but just the same...."

I'd love to post some pictures, but I get an error message that my files are too large. Next week I'll install a photoshop program and hopefully will be able to put some up. Jwilli - I hear ya on the spousal issue. To buy the 360/12 I had to sell a sweet little '64 SG Jr. to appease my wife. Actually, she is very understanding AND she has a shoe fetish. BTW - what models are your three burgandy's?
