ok here's the deal. I've got a 2000 4003 and I was wondering if it had the capacitor in it that everybody is always talking about. I realy don't feel like opening it up to check it out so I figured I'd ask around here. Also, has anybody ever put one in both the neck and bridge pickup. I'm thinking about adding one or more in, so as i don't waste space on the board, can sombody email me the instructions for installation. thanks

I assume you are talking about the .0047mf Capacitor that they put in the 4001 basses between the tone pot and the treble pickup. (I think that is where it is) I beleive they only put them in the 4001 and quit after the early 80's or so..I don't think they put them in any of the 4003's. I think they put that capacitor in there give the flatwound strings, that were originally intended to be the type of strings for the 4001, a more brighter sound.. And when you used roundwounds you would get that trebly growl that the 4001 is famous for... That capacitor also cuts the output, but you get a wider range of treble and growl. Check the Rickenbacker web site for installation, they have schematics you can download of the 4001. I don't know about one on the neck pickup. Remember if you add one, it will cut your output of the bass..
