Opinions on bass cabs from Ric players

I know this is a bit off topic but I would appreciate some input from this forum on Trace Elliot vs. Mesa Boogie Powerhouse cabinets. I currently use Trace 4x10 and 1x15 cabs and have an opportunity to pick up Mesa in the same configurations. Opinions?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul - I've never played through a TE. I love my powerhouse. It's fat and tight at the same time with a lot of punch. Works real well with my Ricks - particularly my Cii. If you have a chance play your bass through them before hand. That’s what I did and I was sold immediately.

There is someone here (pardon my memory for not remembering) who has a Trace rig, I wish I had the opinion to give to you! I know I love Mesa for guitars, the guitarist in my band swears by his Mesa equipment.
I know another bassist in a band we sometimes play with who uses a Mesa 400 head and those same cabs and his tone is amazing. The Alembic probably doesn't hurt either. Sounds like you can't go wrong either way!

I use Trace Elliot! It is an old 250W combo (12 ch. eq and a 15 speaker). On top of that I have a ext. Trace Elliot 2x10 + tweeter cab. Easy to haul, and that rig is loud enough for me. I have tried a lot of different rigs from Ampeg, SWR, Mesa, Warwick to EBS, Peavey, Marshall you name it. Only rig that could compete with TE was SWR. I like the tube pre-amp. IMHO of course!!

Never been keen on combo's although I've been using a Fender Bassman at practice recently and it's been a pleasant surprise, only 2 10" motors so it lacks a little punch.

My preference is still 4x12's, and a seperate head, currently a 1969 Ampeg B-25 driving an Avatar 4x12 fitted with Eminence Kappa Pro's

I didn't like most of the cabinets out there so I built my own and put in eminence speakers ...

I have used much Trace Elliot products over the years but i have now switched to SWR in the form of a 2x12 cab and a SM220 amp head and i find that the SWR cab and amp give me a fantastic Rickenbacker growl.

I have been into Ampegs for a long time and before that, old Acoustic blue faced amps...I particularly like the old Sunn tube heads as well...Pretty much anything tube warms up my old Ricks....I am looking for a new/old amp right now.....Need that fat hot sound...

Jaymi, Happy Hogmany .... found more Lyles btw ...

New-Old, I'd still say give the new Traynor tube amps a try if you can ...$599 for 200 all tube watts !!!

Currently experiencing Rickenbacker Tone Nirvana through an Ampeg PortaBass 800, warmed up by and SVT Tube DI, into a varied assortment of Bag End cabs. I've got a pair of S12-B's and a pair of S15-B's. Most gigs I use one of each but they are there for the full output of the PortaBass into a combined 2 Ohm load with all four cabs.
No hissy tweets or horns for me (o;} just punch and growl.
